For Class #2--Homework and Pictures

It was wonderful meeting you all yesterday.
What an inspiring group! Thanks so much for
the wonderful comments and participation. That
really enriches the experience and helps me
understand how to best teach the class.

CLASS RECORDING

It's good to listen to the classes again if you have the time.

DOWNLOAD READING MATERIALS

The two short articles I talked about in the class are here
The parts of my book that related to this class are here for you:

ACTION STEPS FOR NEXT CLASS

As I mentioned, you can go faster and deeper with
this class, or slower--as the time pressures in your life
permit. The "homework" I give you shows the pace
that our focus will shift from one aspect to another.
So it represents a middle ground.

Here's some things you can do for next class

  • Read the two short articles I spoke of and then the first four sections of Chapter Four of my book, pp. 84-95 (only 11 pages). Again, the links to download these are just above in this email.

  • Answer the study questions below if you are going for CE's or want a certificate of completion from ReddyWorks.

  • Assimilate the instructions in the readings for selecting and cleansing a home altar, get going on this part, and note any questions or comments you might want to bring to Facebook or the class discussion.

  • If you are in the Facebook group, feel free to bring the questions or comments up there right away, or email me. Some of these will then come up in the next class as well.

  • Start figuring out an issue (I call this your "desired positive change"), using the tips found on pp. 91-95. You may do more than one constellation during this class, or only one... depends... Since you will have support from me and from the group, it's OK to go for the deeper kinds of changes here.

  • If you want to be where I expect most people to be, then you might have your altar set up and cleansed, and a Desired Positive Change (DPC) pretty well selected and stated by next class. If you already know how, take a picture of your still empty altar with your smart phone (or digital camera), and post it on Facebook. This is just practice for taking pictures of your altar (if you wish) so that you can get feedback on it from me and/or the group.  You'll get instructions on how to do the pictures in the next class.

  • You can get ahead a little by starting to look at the picture of Home Altar Constellation you will find just below here. What does it say to you?? Have this picture and the "social geometry" diagram" (also here below) to look at during out next class.

  • Move on further ahead if you like by reading pp. 31-38, and 62-65, going further with your "Intake Interview" of yourself pp. 91-95, or getting started with Selecting, Setting Up, and Visiting (pp. 95-98).

Keep in touch with me on our Facebook group
with comments or questions. I'll be watching it
every day.

Study Questions

  1. Contrast the worldview we most of us grew up with in the Western world with indigenous, animistic, "panpsychic" worldview of shamanism

  2. What are the most common forms of communication used by all the forms of consciousness on this Earth plane to communicate with you?

  3. Why is a grace before meals an important part of learning to communicate with the living, conscious, enchanted world that will surround you if you care to shift your deeper belief system?

  4. What wouild indicate to you that adopting this different vision of reality is something you should put energy into?

  5. What do you think is your current level of participation in a living, conscious reality (as opposed to a dead one), and what steps might you want to take to improve it?

Great work in class yesterday. So glad to have you all.  Really LOVE the questions....  :-)

the pictures. WE NEED THE PICTURES DURING CLASSES... :-)

HOMEWORK FOR NEXT CLASS
As I mentioned, you can go faster and deeper with
this class, or slower--as the time pressures in your life
permit. The "homework" I give you shows the pace
that our focus will shift from one aspect to another.
So it represents a middle ground.

Here's some things to do for next class--

  • Three things, basically: read some more, take next steps in your constellation, and get clear about how (or if) you want to have us look at posted pictures of your altar.

  • Read pp 31-42, 62-65, 95-100 in the book excerpts I sent to you.

  • Get clear on your DPC (Desired Positive Change), and try to get an initial setup of little helpers on the altar. Experiment with what feels right in terms of how, when, and how often you visit the altar. Contact me if you have problems selecting a DPC, or post a question on Facebook if you'd like help from the group. I've already been in contact with someone who felt this way--so don't feel somehow "out of it." If you have any trauma in your personal or ancestral background it often resists being looked at at first

  • If you are in the Facebook group, feel free to bring ANY questions or comments up there right away, or email me. Some of these will then come up in the next class as well. (This picture is also on Facebook and on the recordings page where you listen to the audios)

  • Before you read pp 100-105 (if you haven't already), look at the sample altar picture on p. 102 (or better, use the color version posted above here on this page). You can start trying to interpret the symbolisms if you like.  Try to stay close to what emerges looking at size, shape, what it is, what it's made of, position, orientation, what it does, etc. Then move go groupings, barriers, empty spaces in middle, etc. Go for as much richness as you can, being careful to keep you mind as open as possible. That is, don't let premature closure on some idea of what the dynamic is keep you from seeing the whole tapestry.

  • Move on ahead--I'll leave that to you this time, since this is a big week in terms of things to do. Probably the biggest.

Study Questions

  1. Explain 4 of the guidelines for selection and placement of your home altar.

  2. What kinds of questions can you ask yourself or your client to help focus a Desired Positive Change.  Suppose someone says, "I need more abundance in my life."  Formulate your answer by creating some questions around this initial statement.

  3. What is the difference in likely impact on the constellation between a richly patterned altar, and one that is blank or monotone?

  4. What are "wildcard" representatives and how do they work in home altar constellations?

  5. In your own words, as best you can, explain your understanding of what being "too mental" in the selection and setup of your constellation means.  Maybe give an example or two.

ANNOTATING YOUR PICTURES
If you want to get feedback on your altar and its movements,
you'll be taking pictures and sending them directly to me, or else
posting them in the private, secret group on Facebook. If at all
possible, please help us all by labelling your pictures. Main thing
is what represents who. I do not have time to translate your email
descriptions of who is who

Here's some tips on how to do this quickly and easily.

Most smart phones will take the pictures for you. Look for good lighting conditions, and take the pictures preferably from about 45 degrees above the altar (not directly overhead, and not level with the altar).

Low Tech--PRINT what each object person is on half of a small sticky note, put these next to the object-person, and THEN take your picture. JUST WRITE LARGE ENOUGH!!  SIMPLE...   OR....

Mid Tech--take the picture, print it out on a full sized sheet of paper, write what the object-person's represent clearly and legibly on the paper, then scan the paper and make a JPG or GIF or PDF out of the scan and post or email that.

Higher Tech--Annotate directly on Smart Phone--quick and not very hard at all (surprised me...)

  • Iphone--Buy OVER ($1.99), a very nice App that lets you do all we need from the App Store on your phone. Only thing not intuitive about the interface for me was how to add separate captions for different object persons. Turns out you tap LAYERS in the menu wheel, and so different captions go on different layers. This App also works the same way in an Ipad if you have one of those.

  • Android Phone--Don't have one of these, so the best I can do for you is direct you to SKITCH, which seems to be the favored, App for simple text insertion on photos. Look at this Review if you like: http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/43046/skitch-android-app-review-evernote

  • Once you've finished--email the annotated photo to me, or post it on Facebook. Sync or email it to your own computer also if you want a record there.

Annotate on Your Computer--first sync or email the photo to your computer, various choices here

  • If you own PHOTOSHOP or OMNIGRAFFLE, or any higher end photo editor, of course, just use that.

  • PREVIEW on Mac allows you to add captions--use the TOOLS>ANNOTATE>ADD TEXT option in the menus at the top.

  • Download Google's free PICASA photo editor (Mac or Windows). Import your photos (it does this also for you) if you let it. Choose one and expand it. Then stay on the left-most menu tab ( the wrench icon, upper left of screen), and choose the TEXT icon. Rest is pretty intuitive

  • If you sync your docs to Google docs, there is also a photo editor there. I don't know much about it, however

  • Once you've finished--email the annotated photo to me, or post it on Facebook

Keep in touch with me on our Facebook group
with comments or questions. I'll be watching it
every day.

For Class #4--Homework and Pictures

So glad to have you all. I hope you are getting the
picture (the feeling) of how much fun and how rich
it can be to simply "unpack" the symbols involved in
little object-persons on your altar.  Thanks for all your
great comments.  :-)

REMINDER
Have the class materials when you dial in, especially
the pictures. WE NEED THE PICTURES DURING CLASSES... :-)

HOMEWORK FOR NEXT CLASS
As I keep saying, you can go faster and deeper with
this class, or slower--as the time pressures in your life
permit. The "homework" I give you shows the pace
that our focus will shift from one aspect to another.
So it represents a middle ground.

Four things, basically: watch 15 min movie, read some more, practice the techniques from the reading on the initial stages of your constellation, AND GET AS MANY PICTURES POSTED OR SENT TO ME AS POSSIBLE. It's from these that we will draw the material for discussions.

ALSO--COME BACK HERE SUNDAY NIGHT OR MONDAY MORNING (US time) TO SEE pictures we will be talking about next week.

  • Read pp 100-109 in the book excerpts I sent to you, the article "Six Rules for Successful Affirmations," (here) and watch the 15 min video below. These are the sections called SYMBOLS ON A SAMPLE ALTAR, and SEEKING A DYNAMIC.

  • Compare our conversation in the 3nd class about the sample altar in the book Chapter 4 ("stolen inheritance") with what is written and with what you think yourself.  The picture here on this page above is in color and it's better to look at that than the one in the book (this is the "stolen inheritance" picture).

  • Take the techniques named and explained in SEEKING A DYNAMIC and practice them yourself on the altar you have in progress. Use these to start moving it past the initial setup. Take pictures of each major stage if you are going to take part in that process.

  • If you are in the Facebook group, feel free to bring questions or comments up there, or email me if you are not or if you want to be more private. Some of these will then come up in the next class as well.

  • Practice this dual movement of analysis (where you stay very close to just the characteristics, and relationships, positions, orientations, postures, and groupings), and also intuitive interpretation of which of these many possible readings come together to make the more likely ones. So ANALYSIS means, strict phenomenology--"these three are the same color and all in a row"--versus INTERPRETATION--"this suggests they are aligned against such and such."

Please watch this video as part of the homework for the next class.

Study Questions

  1. Explain "Seniority Switching," one of the 7 sources of family and ancestral trauma, and give an example.

  2. Name four of the possible social geometry meanings for the space directly in front of the human body.

  3. What is the relationship between intuition and analysis that Michael is suggesting you try to cultivate?

  4. If you see home altar object-persons grouped roughly around a middle space, what is often the significance of that middle space?  If there is no object-person currently in that middle space, what is a good experiment to try?

  5. Consider these stages of a home altar constellation:  intake, selection, set-up, and searching for a dynamic.  In which two stages do you particularly want to avoid being "too mental"?

Homework & Pictures for Class Five

OK...  yesterday, #4 was a great class.  Thanks for all your
wonderful comments.  And deep gratitude to the person who
allowed us to work with her constellation.   :-)

Three things, this time--read some more, practice the techniques from the reading (silence, check in's, repositionings, rep changes, tentative truth statements, and perspective shifts), AND KEEP THE WELL LABELLED PICTURES COMING ON FACEBOOK OR TO ME VIA EMAIL.  It's from these that we will draw the material for discussion.

  • Read
    • Representative Perception and Social Geometry pp. 33-42
    • Probing for a Dynamic, pp.43-44
    • The Dynamic Emerges, pp.45-48
    • Resolutions, Techniques and Types, pp.48-52
    • Moving Towards Resolutions, 109-116
  • Take the techniques named and explained in SEEKING A DYNAMIC and practice them yourself on the altar you have in progress. Recall the complementary, dynamic tension discussed yesterday between intuition and analysis.  Get as much richness as possible into your interpretations.  Bolster, expand, and train your intuition by simply "unpacking" the symbols on the altar--no attempt here to interpret, just notice patterns of shape, size, color, position, what it is, what it does, where it comes from, and any personal history it has.

  • If you are in the Facebook group, feel free to bring ANY questions or comments up there right away, or email me. Some of these will then come up in the next class as well.  KEEP THE FACEBOOK GROUP MOVING.  IT HELPS ALOT.  You can also email me pictures directly.

Study Questions

  1. List 2 or 3 things it is good to do when you feel stumped or stuck visiting your constellation and looking for a dynamic?

  2. If you can't find superficial or obvious "promising overlaps" (in external events, for instance), what kind of overlap is it then good to look for?

  3. Michael spoke of two very important "ways to be" during visitations to your constellation.  What are they?

  4. Name and explain two of the techniques for seeking a resolution explained in the readings and yesterday's class.

  5. What are "tentative truth statements," and how do you best use them when a constellation dynamic is apparent but also seems very stuck?

For Class #6--Homework and Pictures

OK...  yesterday, #5 was yet another great class.  Thanks for all your
wonderful comments. Hope you are getting the larger picture of how
to do this now   As I said, you folks are a really great class.  :-)

REMINDER
Have the class materials when you dial in, especially
the pictures. Everyone's doing a great job of that.  thanks... :-)

HOMEWORK FOR NEXT CLASS

  • Same three things, again, basically:  read some more, practice the techniques from the reading on the initial stages of your constellation, AND YES STILL GET AS MANY PICTURES POSTED OR SENT TO ME AS POSSIBLE.  It's from these that we will draw the material for discussion.

  • Only reading left now is 116-119.  This is the section called RELEASING AND AFTERMATHS.  Reread earlier parts if you have time, or want to deepen your understanding.

  • Once again, take the techniques named and explained in MOVING TOWARDS RESOLUTIONS and practice them yourself on the altar you have in progress.  Use these to start moving, if you are ready, towards some sort of resolution of your initial constellation.  Remember the broad, rough shape of an effective constellation that brings change (not just explores):  Expansion (branching) -----> a Dynamic (or confusion, or too many dynamics)   ---->  contraction (pruning) -----> focused resolution.   Take pictures of each stage if you are going to take part in that process.  Start another if you've finished the first one.

  • If you are in the Facebook group, feel free to bring questions or comments up there right away, or email me.  Some of these will then come up in the next class as well.

Study Questions

  1. The dynamic in a constellation is the most obvious block or misalignment in the flow of life and love standing in the way of supporting the client's desired positive change.  TRUE OR FALSE?

  2. If you see the representative for a child directly behind its parent facing the parent's back, the can often mean the child is somehow trying to parent the parent.  TRUE OR FALSE?

  3. Constellations don't move spontaneously towards resolutions, so you always have to look for ways to help them.  TRUE OR FALSE?

  4. The ultimate validity of a home altar constellation is determined by
    A. feeling good at most of the visits to the altar
    B. how much emotion seems to surround it
    C. whether or not your desired positive change starts to manifest
    D. how well you seem to be understanding the symbols

  5. The "visioning" part of the home altar process is
    A. asking yourself what the arrangement on the altar would look like if it supported the desired positive change
    B. figuring out your desired positive change
    C. asking yourself what emotional changes would be required in the beings represented on the altar for a supportive arrangement to be valid
    D. thinking about how to implement the changes brought about by the constellation
    E. A and B are true
    F. A and C are true

HOMEWORK FOR NEXT CLASS

  • Agree or disagree with my summaries in the first two constellations on the Seattle conference poster below.  Then work through the 6 stages of the third constellation on the poster.
  • REVIEW AUDIOS AND READINGS--BRING ANY QUESTIONS YOU NEED ANSWERED--last class in this cycle
  • Move forward with and/or bring to completion your altars....
  • If you are in the Facebook group, feel free to bring ANY questions or comments up there right away, or email me.  Some of these will then come up in the next class as well.

STUDY QUESTIONS

  1. I've spoken during the whole set of classes of two "creative tensions" that operate in constellations, and mentioned them again last night.  What are they?

  2. Give an example of a "nudge" during the probing for resolutions part of a constellation.  Now turn that nudge into a fudge.

  3. Explain what "visioning" and "comparing" mean as you come to see a dynamic in a constellation.

  4. In the "sequencing" step while probing for a resolution, what are the two levels you need to be looking at and taking into account?

  5. Explain what "global," "focused," and "null" resolutions are in a constellation.
